 Wantage and Grove Area Youth Office THE SWEATBOX offers a range of activities, information, advice and support for young people in the Wantage and Grove area.
Youth work in the area is guided by 12 members of the Sweatbox Union, a youth forum who take responsibility for advising youth workers and local authorities on the needs and issues affecting young people.
Youth work is centred around the Sweatbox popular live music venue (find out more on the Sweatbox myspace), located at the rear of King Alfred's College East Site, Springfield Road.
Regular Programme
Sweatbox SU - Monday Sweatbox Union (the centre's young person steering group) meets for meetings and training events, contact the centre for more info or to get an issue or idea taken forward.. Sweatbox Beanbag Cinema - Tuesdays 7.30-10pm popcorn great films etc etc. and usual open mic and chill out stuff. admission free, beanbag hire £1 + £1 refundable deposit Club Grove - Thursday 7.30-10pm Club night for 13 - 19yrs at Milbrook Community Centre, Grove. Broad and changing range of activities and trips out. Admission 50p. Sweatbox Fri Night Live - Fridays 7.30-10.30pm
Very popular, well equipped live music venue offering regular gigs for young bands to appreciative 300+ audiences. Age 13-19. Admission £2.50. To book a gig contact the Sweatbox myspace. Currently not running, however there is a Friday drop-in, contact centre for details.
Bandy Times
You can Book rehearsal/ tuition/ recording sessions with experienced musicians who offer support and advice if needed. Absolute beginners to established bands welcome. Contact centre for details.
Events and more
Young people and workers at the Sweatbox and Grove Club also organise a bunch of activities during the year, including the Rock and Film in the Park event in Summer. Come along to get involved, find out more.
