Apprenticeships

Get your foot on the ladder with apprenticeshipsApprentices earn a wage and work with experienced staff to gain job-specific skills.

Apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications, often at a local college. This happens on days when they are released from work to study.

Apprenticeships are available to anyone living in England, aged 16+ and not in full-time education can apply.

Earn while you learn

There are many benefits to being an apprentice:

Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices’ ability and the industry sector. There are over 190 types of Apprenticeships in a range of industry sectors:

  • Education and Training
  • Leisure Travel and Tourism
  • Business, Administration and the Law
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Retail and Commercial
  • Arts, Media and Publishing
  • Construction, Planning and the Built Environment
  • Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal care

The minimum salary for most types of Apprenticeship is £2.50 an hour, but many apprentices earn a lot more.

Employers increase wages as your skills develop, and research has found that apprentices earn an average of £170 per week.

Find and apply for an apprenticeship locally

Many organisations in Oxfordshire offer apprenticeships. Opportunities include traditional manufacturers, trade, agricultural jobs, IT and computers, cars and motor trade, shops, hairdressing and beauty, insurance, banking, working with children, office and administration and many other roles.
