Out and about
Stay in your home!
When the evenings are cold and you're tired after work, training, school or college curling up with the internet or a good book is an appealing idea. In fact, there are a lot of good features about staying in:
- Cheap, assuming you aren't spending all evening on the phone
- Lots to do (but that will include chores, homework, etc.)
- Private, relaxing, time for yourself
But there's a lot to be said for getting out and about, too. It's your time to hang out with friends, have fun, do what you like doing, meet new people and try out new activities.
Get out of the house!
The What's on section of Spired has information about where to go in Oxfordshire for special events, as well as gigs, films, theatre, sports clubs etc. You can also check out your local paper, noticeboards and the internet for clubs, classes, groups and societies that might grab your interest.
Or, if you just fancy somewhere to hang out, why not try your local youth centre?
Youth Centres
The Youth Service runs youth
centres in towns across
Oxfordshire where you can meet
friends and learn stuff about
yourself and others. Drop by the
Youth Centre near you to check
it out.

Your shout about Youth Centres
- The club is heavy. It’s where
everyone hangs out.
- It’s brilliant cause we’re always
doing stuff, but you don’t just do
it for us, we’ve got to help
organise and things like that.
- It lets you have some space
without being hassled, although
we do get hassled about subs
sometimes, but we don’t pay a
lot and it’s worth it.
- I like it that we get treated like
young adults and not like little
kids.
- I can just come by and have
a chat, maybe not be about for a
few weeks but still come back
and feel that I have been missed.
- I know it’s somewhere I can
have fun and forget about stuff.
Tips for places to go
- The Mish at 57 St Clement’s Street is an alcohol-free pub for under 18s with internet access, DJs and the usual pub games.
