Essential info
The Young People's Survival Guide for Oxfordshire is produced by
Oxfordshire County Council Youth Support Service and goes out to all
year 11s (and other young people aged 13+) in the county each year. The Survival Guide seeks
to inform you about some aspects of life where you may need more
information, help or support, meanwhile please remember...
Crisis Situation?
- In a crisis try to remain calm - don't go into automatic
panic mode
- Remember you are not alone - there's always someone
you can turn to by using the Help Directory, or the contacts and websites
linked from the pages of the guide
- No-one has all the answers and it's ok to admit you
don't know
- You'll feel better once you've got a good idea to know where you can
start looking for those answers
So, once you've had a look through the Survival Guide, bookmark it or write down the web address (www.spired.com/guide) so you'll be able to find it again - you never know when it'll be useful.
Emergency?
- In a life and death situation ring 999 and ask for the
service (police, fire or ambulance) you need
- 112 is the emergency number to dial from a mobile - it
works throughout Europe even when you have no
credit, no coverage by your own provider and the
keypad is locked.
- These pages will help you about specific emergencies:

Experience: Don't give up
Don't Quit
When things go wrong
As they sometimes will
When the road you’re trudging
Seems all uphill
When funds are low
And debts are high
And you want to smile
But you have to sigh
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must
But don’t you quit
Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell
How close you are
It may be near
When it seems so far
So stick to the fight
When you’re hardest hit
Its when things seem worst
That you must not quit
Emma, 18
