World Cup Poetry Competion – Rose Hill Youth Centre
During the World Cup season 2010, workers and young people at Rose Hill Young Peoples Centre ran a poetry competition celebrating the World Cup.

The winners were presented prizes by Cllr John Sanders and you can read the poems below.
First Prize : Jake
The hype of the crowd gets me all geared up
All eyes on the tunnel as 22 players walk on the pitch
A silence falls, right hand on heart as the whole team chants
God Save Our Queen
The camera pans out as we watch everyone sing
Our hearts flutter as our men stand proud
The crowd go wild as our team take position
The whistle blows but who knows?
Remember heroes are never forgotten
Maybe just maybe
COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Second Prize : Katie
World cup, World cup
England players heads up
Rio Ferdinand down a hole
We got others, just score a goal
Wayne Rooney, he’s a Looney
But with his help we might get through this
David James, he’s the keeper
If only the games were as easy as FIFA
Lampard Lampard, he better not get a red card
We need more players in defence
When we win, the feeling is immense
Come on England, stand your ground
The roar, the horns, just hear that sound
So we go up, up, to the top
Move around and clap your hands together
Down down turn around
Scoring goals is what it’s all about
Katie
Third Prize : Paige
Ashley Cole, Cole, Cole
Is he ever gunna score a goal?
Lampard is in for the win
But now our team has hit the bin
Kaka , Kaka
His is going far
Messy
He’s the best scorer
But if he loses his life he will get poorer
Win! Win! Win!
Our team has just been binned
But we’ve lost all our class
Co’s we are a bunch of arse
But this is it so fin!
