The young people came up with the plot at an initial meeting. There were two constraints: that it needed to be a short story and it needed to be about Local Democracy.
The brief was to produce a short, dramatic and interesting story about the local youth centres that showed the importance of local elections.
Worker Jeremy Dennis broke the plot up into scenes. The young people then worked out action and dialogue through discussion and improvisation.
Some was improvised on the day, which caused some problems but kept the process vibrant and involving!
When the scenes raised interesting issues, we stopped to discuss them where possible. Issues discussed included respect, appearance, use of language, local elections, voting, bribery and fraud.
All the scenes were shot in and around the Youth Centre.
Young People helped find extras and set up the shots and also wrangled cables, checked positions and approved shots.
And e ven during the most difficult shots, everyone had lots of fun!
