TRAX Summer projects 2007 - karts, bikes, more
Trax celebrates its 15th year this year, and has come along way since the project was set up in 1992!
Originally the project was set up to address car crime in Oxfordshire and focused on building and racing banger cars and dealing with youth crime. Over the past fifteen years the project has developed and now focuses on alternative education and training programmes for all young people interested in mechanics.
Workshops focus on Go–Kart, motorcycle and motorcar mechanics and maintenance and we also offer issue based group work, social skills, Literacy and Numeracy skills and we have a Connexions worker here to support job searching, etc.
We also offer Entry Level Qualifications, City & Guilds and AQA’s.
The project caters for 13 – 21 year olds. To date we have worked with over 4,500 young people all over the Oxfordshire area with many progressing into full time education or employment. The projects aim is to,
‘Channel the natural enthusiasm of young people for vehicles, into a positive and challenging direction, to aid their development towards future achievement.’
TRAX is committed to equal opportunities and has run programmes for many different and diverse groups of young people around Oxfordshire.
Enough about that! What's going on this summer?
- On the Road: TRAX will take the outreach Go–Kart project to youth and community centres in and around Oxfordshire. We will work with 9 young people either in a block of 4 days or across 6 weeks.
For more information please contact Sarah.
- Motorcycle summer course: This will run on a Wednesday from 10 – 4 across the summer and consist of off – road motorcycle riding, maintenance and safety around motorbikes, team building, issue based groupwork and other leisure activities.
To enrol, speak to Tamsin.
- Bicycle Maintenance: This course will run on a Tuesday morning and will involve young people renovating bicycles which they can then keep if they finish the course.
To enrol, speak to Tamsin.
