Young Leaders Project - you know you!
The Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) is now in their second round of funding for young-person lead information work around sexual health. Projects funded so far have included:
- Inviting sexual health specialists to deliver workshops on alcohol, self-esteem and different kinds of love
- Making a DVD about young peoples' views and experiences about sexual relationships and sexual health
- Planning a one-day training course on HIV/AIDS and STIs.
- Producing wallet-sized information packs about STIs
Now they need more young people with innovative and creative ideas about how to educate their friends. All you need to do is get together with your youth club, school
or other organisation to develop the idea and make an application.
Young Leaders get involved now!
- Do you know your dental dam from your dental floss?
- Do you know a group of young people with an idea for a project that will help them and other young people learn about sex & relationships?
THT is launching the second Grant Round of the Young Leaders Project, giving grants of up to £1,000 for young people to run short-term Sex and Relationships Education projects. Closing date is 27 June, read on and check out links for more information and background.
Think you know you?
What do you know about relationships and sex? A little bit? Not as much as you would like to? One thing’s for sure, there’s plenty to learn: emotions, relationships, pregnancy, contraception, love, changes in your body and sexually transmitted infections. We’re offering you the chance to change the way young people learn about relationships and sex. Why? Because:
- Young people in the UK have the worst sexual health in Europe.
- Young people say they are more likely to listen to advice and information from their friends
- Young people say they need to know information is reliable and accurate
Can you help?
Have you got ideas about how best to educate friends and peers about sex and relationships? Can you think about ways to support young people in your community to create innovative education projects about relationships and sexual health?
If so, THT wants to help you take your ideas forward. Here's how:
- Get in contact with your local youth centre or youth worker and discuss your idea with them. They'll help you make the application.
- Contact your local Terrence Higgins Trust Office and tell them about your idea. They'll help develop your idea and give advice.

More about the Young Leaders Project
Terrence Higgins Trust, the country’s largest sexual health and HIV charity has started the Young Leaders project. The aim is to help deal with the rise in sexually transmitted infections among young people. The Big Lottery Fund has given a grant to run the project. So Terrence Higgins Trust has the experience and the money, all they’re missing is people like you to get involved in developing the projects.
