Setting
up the presentation, and the first page, projected onto the
wall of the Council Chambers. Webmaster Jeremy Dennis (above)
planned the presentation with help from a young
volunteer working for Spired.com. See
the presentation (html). |
On 19 Nov, Oxfordshire celebrated 10 years of Children's Rights
with a presentation to Councillors and others. Spired.com attended,
with the Graffiti Participation project (on a laptop) showing what
young people in Oxfordshire Youth groups told us about mattered
to them.
We had opinions from young people in Base 33 Young Mums Group,
Vale Youth Forum, Asylum Welcome Jigsaw Youth Group, Cutteslowe
Girls Group, Oxford Youth Council, Berinsfield Youth Centre, Wolvercote
Young People's Club, Abingdon Bridge, Grove Youth Centre, Chipping
Norton Youth Centre, Allandale Youth Centre, BYHP and the Milan
Girls Group in Banbury.

A young volunteer who helps out on Spired.com, was
helping with the presentation, which grouped the slogans into the
following main concerns:
- Cultural identity, equality and pride
- Respect, and respecting each other
- Handle with care: anti-bullying messages
- Against cruelty to animals
- A better environment for young people
- Protesting against the war
- War and peace
- How I am now
- Statements of approval
- Statements of disapproval
- The courage to be yourself
- Children's rights
- Thinking and being aware
- Love and sex
- Just for fun
As well as showing the presentation, we offered Councillors the
opportunity to make their own badges.
You can read the presentation just as the Councillors saw it, here
on Spired.com.
