From the Milan Girls Group in Banbury

Issues, ideas, and a badge to say what you feel These badges, signs and stencils were made at workshops at the Milan Girls Group, a regular Asian Girl's Group held in Banbury.

The workshop's aim was to make visible statements about political, social, or global issues.

The first step was finding an issue that really mattered to the young people in the group.

A rose, a dove and Peace; the badge says, Islam rules! As everyone was thinking about the possibility of going to war at that moment, a lot of the issues talked about (and the badges and stencils made) were to do with peace and war.

Other global issues discussed included identity, respect, other cultures, racism, money, rape, diseases, fox-hunting, gay/lesbian issues, gangsters, and AIDS/HIV.

stop the war sign made at the groupWhen the young people had decided on their chosen issues or statements, they made them into badges with a badgemaker brought along especially for the session, or created stencils with card and spray paint. Some people also made signs, like the one shown here.

You can see the badges that the group made here, and the stencils here and here.
