Wolvercote Young People's Club

Don't be a chocoholic badgeWolvercote Young People's Club is on St Peter's Road in Wolvercote, Oxford.

Wolvercote is the seventh group that's had a visit from the Graffiti Participation Project, and its amazing badge machine so maybe it's time to look at some of the different things people have wanted to put onto their badges.

Snake badgeAt almost every group, some people didn't want to wear slogans. Instead, they wanted pictures on their badges.

That is maybe a statement in itself (you don't like slogans) but are the pictures themselves significant? Does this picture of a snake have a deeper meaning? Or is it just a neat way to draw a W for Wolvercote?

Home-made Nike brand badgeLots of people want to put brand names/slogans on their badges and t-shirts, often the same ones as they're wearing.

Why copy when you have a chance to do something unique? Perhaps because you admire or respect the message behind that brand. What does your favourite brand name mean to you?

Cow badgeWe've also seen a lot of people wanting to make badges that make statements about yourself or someone else, some kind, others less so!

This almost always sparks off discussion in the groups. Would you be happy to wear this badge? What about if your favourite animal was a cow?

The other thing almost everyone wants is a badge with their name on it. We all like that; it makes us feel important! This badge lists people at the workshop; they added the word "safe" – as in respect – but also, safe in their youth centre.

You can see the badges here: Page 1 , Page 2, and also t-shirts made at a second session.

All thanks to Ashley, Cameo, Daniel, Elliot, Gemma, George, Holly, Hollie, Ian, Jazmine, Kayleigh, Liam, Rosie, Ryan and Scarlett who took part in the two sessions.
