Condoms and Emergency Contraception

Strawberry condomUsed correctly, a condom is an effective contraception.

However, very occasionally, something goes wrong, and a condom breaks or fails. Sometimes, people even forget to use them.

If this happens to you, here's what to do:

  • Get emergency contraception (the "morning after pill") from your local Family Planning Clinic, GP or pharmacist as soon as possible afterwards
  • Take it as directed on the packet
  • You must do this within three days

FACT: If you are already pregnant, Emergency Contraception won't work. It must be taken within three days of having sex.
